Bear Valley Rescue: How You Can Help

Bear Valley Rescue is a registered Canadian charity. (Charity #861219970RR0001) THANK YOU to all our donors! We aren't always able to thank you individually, but please be assured your donations, no matter what amount, are greatly appreciated. Those giving through 'Canada Helps' as well, even though we don't issue the tax receipt, we would like to acknowledge your gift here with heartfelt thanks. Also we are eligible for grants through the Government of Alberta Community Spirit Program - we will receive a proportional share of the grant pool based on the cash donations we receive during the year! If you are a resident of Alberta, you can receive back 50% of your donation through tax credits! Plus the amount of grant we receive through the Community Spirit Program is based solely on the amount of private cash donations we receive so all cash donations are welcome!

Please consider making a one-time or monthly donation to help us look after the horses. Below is a form you can print off (Microsoft Word Document) and distribute to your 'horsey' or 'animal-loving' friends to help spread the word and to help us generate some badly needed funds. Currently our hay alone costs us approximately $20,000 per year, not to mention the vet, grain, fencing and pasture costs! Also you may want to consider fostering or sponsoring one of our permanent residents. We can keep you updated on their progress, send pictures, and, if you're close enough, you can come out any time and visit with them! Unfortunately we're not set up to process donations by credit card, so if you'd like to make a donation by credit card or to set up a monthly contribution please use the 'Canada Helps' button. - Click here for the printable Sponsorship Form The projects we are currently raising funds for are: Spring 2010 vet costs - shots/deworming/gelding/hernia operations We didn't geld any of the yearlings in 2009 so they'll all need to be done in spring 2010. Currently we have 17!! that will need to be done in the spring. Hay Fund - was $12,000 per year, but due to the poor hay crops our winter 2009-2010 hay is going to cost $26,000!! Foster Horses Support Fund - $5,000 per year Special feed and vet costs for the old guys. These figures are estimates based on budget figures only. 100% of ALL donations received goes directly to the rescue and the care of the horses. Where a specific fund has not been allocated, the donation will be applied to general operating expenses related specifically to the care of the horses (of which there is no shortage!): vet fees, feed & supplements, farrier, etc. Also, please check out the Fundraising page for other ways to contribute. Lastly, we do appreciate all the kind emails and phone calls - it really helps to know that there are others out there that care about these horses. Here's a great book that would be a hit with all animal lovers: "Where the Blind Horse Sings. Touching stories from the Catskills Animal Sanctuary", by Kathy Stevens; available through Blindhorsesings.com
