Bear Valley Rescue: Horses for Sale
These are horses that need special homes and are listed for sale by their owners. Please contact the seller directly for more information or for photographs. If you have a horse you would like to list, that for some reason needs special care and is not saleable in the normal fashion, please email us the info and we will be glad to list it. (We would also appreciate a small donation if you can afford it, but it is not required). Please let us know if you find a home for it, so we can remove it from the list. Thanks Darlene for suggesting this list, to try to help keep these horses out of the auctions and away from the feedlots. We will also have 'horses wanted' listed when someone has a home to offer. Thanks Melanie, for that suggestion. *Well-broke 14 yr old sorrel QH mare for intermediate rider. In Calgary area, asking $1500, contact John at 403-289-9651. This September (2009) I found out he has an old racing injury in his hind right fetlock area, where a major blood vessel is completely detached from his tendons or something.. It was pretty severe according to the vet (she- the vet- was very surprised he wasn't lame on it). So anywho, the vet told me if he EVER comes up lame on it to quit riding him altogether and retire him. In November we went for a light hack, and after the ride he trotted out lame on it, so very long story short I'm retiring him, but don't have the extra money to keep him as one of my old horses was recently returned to me. I'm willing to give him (the TB) away to the right home- one that would promise to keep in touch often and send me pictures so I would know he was doing okay and didn't end up in a meat factory. He can't be ridden anymore, and is a bit of a hard keeper (seems to do okay with some extra grain and a little extra hay), and also he cribs.. Sounds great doesn't he? (Just kidding lol). He's actually very sweet once you get to know him. She has great ground and round pen manners and is suitable for anybody to ride – English or Western. No hassle hauler, excellent with the farrier and bathing. Asking $5000 - see poster. *11yr Old Registered Thoroughbred mare for sale (I do not have her papers, but her sire was Bashful Cloud and her dam was Office Overload. If required, I do know who has her papers). I received her as a 3 yr old recently off the track, and with minimal effort she has been my western pleasure mount ever since. She is the quietest horse ever to handle on the ground, but needs and experienced rider. She is always full of GO, but is very responsive to leg and hand cues. If she is with a trail buddy, a beginner to intermediate rider could take her. She *cannot* be used for breeding due to a foaling injury as a 4yr old. As a result of that injury she has a lot of internal scarring and her anal sphincter does not function properly. It does not interfere with her health in any way at this point, but when she whinnies or takes off quickly she makes some rather loud gassy sounds. She also has some scarring on her front left shoulder from an bad encounter with a barb wire fence at the breeders, but it has never bothered her. She is excellent to load and trailer. Loves people! Incredibly easy to catch, even in an open field. She has also received regular farrier work, deworming and vaccinations. She deserves a great home with someone who has more time for her than I do. I have not ridden her for the past two years due to a very difficult pregnancy and now dealing with a very difficult toddler! I am also due to have another baby shortly and so I cannot foresee when I will be able to get back to riding in the future. I cannot say enough for her. She is a very solid girl, 15.2 HH, bay and beautiful.. I did use her several times to help move cows as well, and unlike alot of thoroughbreds, she is an easy keeper. "UPDATE: I have now been back on this mare a dozen or so times starting in January 2010. The first couple times she was a bit skittish, but otherwise fine. She is now going like I never gave her such a long break. Still xtremely full of GO but listens SO well to direction. Absolutely no buck or bolt...just wants to go. I have also put my two year old son on her (his very first time on a horse) and lead him around without incident. " For more information or pics or to arrange a visit, please call Rene @ 403-845-5117. We are located in Rocky Mountain House AB. Asking $1000 *Breeder reducing herd due to serious health issues.
