Eleanor
Eleanor is a tall (16HH) paint/draft cross mare that came to us from a horse dealer in early June, 2022, along with her 2 year old colt, Henry. She was in poor condition and completely unhandled and fearful.
There is a convoluted story about Eleanor and her foal and how they came to be here. A certain horse dealer originally had the 2 horses, Eleanor and her foal, in December 2020 and had contacted another Rescue at that time, asking if they wanted them. That Rescue had no space and so they contacted another Rescue who agreed to purchase the horses from the dealer. Fast forward 18 months and the first Rescue gets another call from the same horse dealer asking if they want these same 2 horses as they'd come back into his possession from the second Rescue! Not only had this second Rescue sold back the horses to the horse dealer, who is also a meat buyer, but the horses were in very poor condition, underweight and wormy, and fearful and unhandled to boot. The first Rescue again didn't have room to take these 2 horses in so this time they contacted us and we agreed to take them (along with 2 other mares on the same trailer).
Eleanor has been worked with since arriving and is no longer as fearful as she was, though she is still quite nervous. Her foal Henry was weaned and gelded and is also now halterbroke and available for adoption. Anyone interested in Eleanor would need extensive horse knowledge, patience, and compassion, to continue her positive reinforcement training. She is advancing well and can be haltered and is learning to pick up her feet.
